Joanne Lo Grimes Distinguished with Hawaii Women Lawyers Award
Joanne Lo Grimes, a partner in Carlsmith Ball’s Honolulu office, has been recognized as the 2016 Outstanding Woman Lawyer of the Year by Hawaii Women Lawyers (HWL). Ms. Grimes has been an active contributor to HWL since 1999. She served as the organization’s president in 2009, and was a board member for more than 10 years. According to HWL, Ms. Grimes’ efforts have improved the status of women in the legal profession, increased the number of women in leadership roles in the legal field, and promoted the advancement of all women.
In addition to her work on behalf of HWL, Ms. Grimes was recognized for her legal practice, which spans more than 20 years. She has provided legal counsel to Parker Ranch Foundation Trust, the Estate of James Campbell, as well as the Hawaii Host Committee for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in 2011 and the National Host Committee for the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2016. Ms. Grimes also serves on the Trustee Screening Committee assisting the Probate Court to appoint successor trustees for the Kamehameha Schools.
She is active in civic and community organizations in Hawaii. Ms. Grimes is a director and vice president of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii, a director for PBS Hawaii, and a member of the City & County of Honolulu Ethics Board of Appeals. She also served on the Hawaii Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and the Hawaii Justice Foundation.
