Carlsmith Ball Announces Hiring of Ian Wesley-Smith and Derek Simon as Associates in Honolulu Office
HONOLULU - December 22, 2016-Carlsmith Ball is pleased to announce Ian Wesley-Smith and Derek Simon have joined the firm as associates in the firm's Honolulu office. Wesley-Smith is an associate in the firm's Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Simon is a member of the firm's Real Estate and Project Development Practice Group.
Before joining Carlsmith Ball, Wesley-Smith attended the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law, where he received the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in thirteen courses and graduated as class valedictorian. His experience includes work as a real property research assistant to Professor David Callies and Outside Articles Editor for the University of Hawaii Law Review. Wesley-Smith has co-authored articles on customary law and genetically modified organism (GMO) regulations in other journals.
Prior to joining the firm, Simon was a research assistant to Professor David L. Callies, Benjamin A. Kudo Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii School of Law. His experience includes analysis of real property, land use, and state and local government issues in Hawaii and on the Mainland. In conjunction with his research, Simon served as a legal extern for the Honorable J. Michael Seabright of the United States District Court, District of Hawaii, and the Honorable Michael D. Wilson of the Supreme Court of Hawaii. He has a law degree from the University of Hawaii where he was awarded five CALI Excellence for the Future Awards, the HSBA Real Property and Financial Services Award, and the C. Jepson Garland Memorial Award.
